Sabrimala Temple Kerala : A Landmark Judgement

Constitution of India has given us many rights such as right of justice, right against exploitation, freedom to speech, right to expression and many more one from them is right to equality which is enumerated under the Article 14 - 18, this article says that the constitution gives equality before the law, i.e. the prohibition of discrimination on grounds of religion, race, caste, GENDER or place of birth, equality, of opportunity in matters of employment, the abolition of untouchability and abolition of titles among all citizens of India.

This equality in Gender means that their is equality between men and women in everything before the law and no discrimination should be made between men and women in every field whether it is professional or religious as said by the Constitution of India. But this is not entrusted or applied by maximum of the communities in India. Women are still treated secondary when compared to the men not only professionally but also on religious matters. Same has been enunciated by the the Honorable Supreme Court of India in the Sabrimala temple Case of Kerala.

In this case the females aged from 12 years to 50 years are not allowed to enter the temple as it was believed that the ladies of this age group are not "pavitra" as they have their menstrual cycle in this age group. It is believed by the pujaris of temple that female of  this age group are not pure so they must not be allowed to enter the temple, in this case Honorable Supreme Court gives the decision that this is against the fundamental rights given to the citizens of India. Though this was the most controversial issue and still many communities does not accept the judgement but Supreme Court gave the decision in favor of the fundamental rights.

Lets read the full case to see that how the Honorable Supreme Court safeguards the rights given to the women by the Constitution of India in this Judgement of the case popularly known as the Sabrimala Temple Case.
